As of 7/1/25 I will now be switching to Pop’s Procut Steel, a new hybrid carbon steel from Dr. Larrin Thomas. This steel produces results as good as DET annealed 52100 with a less time consuming heat treat. For my less expensive knives like the Buffalo Scout, Brow Tine and Drop Tine this will be an improvement over the steel I was using for them and I’ll be able to keep the price very close to what it has been.
3/32” Pop’s Pro Cut High Carbon Steel, Heat treated and tempered to 60-61 HRC.
Full tang construction
1/4” G10 scales, 1/4” stainless loveless screw, 1/4” stainless lanyard tube. All secured with Blade Pro epoxy.
Available in Scandi, Saber or Flat grind with a 27 degree edge. Each grind has its pros and cons, to summarize:
Scandi: Thickest and strongest blade. Most economical to produce. Works like a wedge in wood to quickly carve. Not as good of a slicer as flat or saber. Best survival or hard use grind.
Flat: Thinnest and therefore lightest, also potentially the weakest. Great for slicing, skinning and finer carving. Takes the most time to create so therefore most expensive. Best hunting/ fishing or skinning grind.
Saber: Compromise between Scandi and Flat. Thickness of spine extends down the blade to give more strength and wedge action for splitting wood. Reduced sides make for a decent slicer. More expensive than Scandi to produce. Best all-purpose blade grind.
Weighs 7-8 ounces depending on grind.
